Our mission is to connect causes with the world’s largest companies and their employees, using technology to transform the way they receive funds and freeing up their time and resources to focus on delivering community impact.

Who is AOGF?

Established in 2016, the American Online Giving Foundation, Inc. (AOGF) is a US public charity exempt under Section 501(c)(3) that uses technology, automation and aggregation to help donors maximize their generosity and to help other charities reduce their administrative costs associated with charitable giving.

AOGF has partnered with Benevity, Inc., a for-profit certified B Corporation that provides leading global corporate purpose software. The Benevity technology platform helps companies and their employees make charitable donations in the most efficient, effective way possible and to recommend grants to other Section 501(c)(3) public charities in the US (“Causes”).

AOGF establishes and uses donor advised funds to facilitate giving to a broad range of Causes. We also provide real-time tax receipting, without applying donation thresholds or other restrictions that limit participation.

How does a donation happen?

When people and companies donate to AOGF, they advise AOGF as to which Cause in the US should receive support from the donation. AOGF then receives the donation and provides a tax receipt (if applicable), aggregates all funds received and recommended for a particular Cause, and it ordinarily sends them to the Cause on a monthly basis. Although your donation is to AOGF and disbursements are within its discretion, your recommendation ordinarily results in a disbursement from AOGF, along with funds from other donors, to the donor-recommended Cause. In the unlikely event that a recommendation will not or cannot be followed for a particular Cause, e.g., the Cause no longer exists, is no longer a charity, does not accept the donation, etc., AOGF will disburse the funds to a similar Cause.

How does AOGF help charities the United States?

Serving a national constituency, AOGF’s primary purpose is to raise, aggregate and grant funds for charitable purposes and to make distributions to other Causes, all as efficiently as possible.

AOGF connects more than 100,000 registered US charities with millions of donors.

More than 95% of the $380 billion donated to North American charities in 2020 was paid to the charities by cash or check.

Can you imagine what all of that costs to process?

AOGF is committed to reducing the costs of charitable giving by streamlining donations to Causes. With a single monthly donation from AOGF, Causes are no longer required to perform manually intensive administrative tasks or deploy resources to cash checks, write and distribute tax receipts or verify donations.

Has your Cause received funds from AOGF?

We encourage you to complete your Cause Profile in the Benevity Causes Portal so your organization can increase its opportunities to connect with additional donors. A Cause Profile allows your Cause to establish eligibility for hundreds of corporate giving programs and reach an audience of several million donors and volunteers. You will be able to publish stories that update donors on the impact of their donations and access comprehensive donor reports.
